WHO I AM

My Teaching Philosophy

You have certainly heard or read that German is supposedly not an easy language to learn. You may agree or disagree with that statement, but what I certainly know to be true is that German is not an easy language to TEACH for sure.

Being a language instructor is a challenging and often daunting task. And being a GOOD one even more so. So what makes a good language instructor actually?

You will say it depends. And you will be right to a certain degree. But if learning is a science (and I strongly believe that it is), then teaching is a science as well. I am working on becoming the best possible teacher for my students every single day, and I am sure that I am failing often enough and that there is still plenty of room for improvement. But here is what you need to know about me and my philosphy to decide whether I am the right lid for your pot, so to speak.

I am someone who firmly believes that fun and hard work are not mutually exclusive. I have seen over and over how this sense of success and achievement that comes with hard work can be the most pleasurable experience on earth. In order to achieve your learning goal, a casual and passive approach is not gonna get you the results you want. Why not? Because you really have a long path in front of you. The German migration office BAMF – which is among other things responsible for conducting language and integration courses for migrants and refugees in Germany – brings course participants from zero to B1 intermediate proficiency after a staggering 600 hours of classroom learning. So unless you have all the time in the world, you really need an intense schedule to get there.

I am therefore striving to develop the best possible learning material that I can in order to make this complex language more accessible and the path ahead of you more clearly visible. It is often not talent that is missing, but merely some structure and guidance and a tad of accountability as well. That is what I am here to provide. And I wish you the very best of luck, success, motivation and of course fun along the way!
